Very Good Gardening at Smallfields

Post 27: Strawberry Central

2022

The time of year where I have more strawberries than I know what to do with has come.

Today I harvested 250 strawberries. My kids promptly ate about 50 which means I have 200 extras laying around.

Last week I made some of my strawberries and peas into a “harvest art.”

First “harvest art” of 2022

This is something that I thoroughly enjoy creating.

I’m currently working on a way to put all of my harvest art photos into an album on this website.

I also harvested a whole bunch of peas today.

Because all of these harvests have been coming in full force, I decided to make a “Harvest Tallies” page.

If you’re interested in that kind of stuff, check it out.

It can be found in the menu at the top.

In other news my AeroGarden has ripened tomatoes!

And today I picked one long bean.

And I ate it like a snack.

Don’t ask me why I’m wearing sunglasses inside. I honestly have no idea.

My garlic has started to produce some scapes in the greens.

Scapes are the yellow parts that bend in a different direction than the leaves

This is a great sign because it means the bulb is developing.

When they get big enough (and before they bloom) I will cut them off close to the leaves. I can and will use them like I would regular garlic.

When I cut them off, all of the plant’s energy will go to the bulb once more.

I have a tomato growing on my outdoor plants!

And my peppers are showing growth despite taking some damage from the cut worms about a week ago.

That’s it for now.

I’ll leave you with a picture of one of my roses that I cut from my bushes out back.
