Very Good Gardening at Smallfields

Post 15: Spring is Coming!

Today I thought I’d give you some updates on all my growing adventures.

First, I’d love some advice. After I transplanted these herbs, some of them seem to be struggling. The basil, Thai basil, and dill specifically.

I thought maybe they needed some water, so I added more. Then I thought they needed light so I brought up an extra grow light. Next, I suspected that I maybe over watered them (which is weird because they came from the AeroGarden) but when I dumped the excess water, they seemed worse. Any thoughts?

If this is transplant shock, it’s happening a little later than I would have thought but that just means I have to wait and see what happens.

Please, if you have any ideas, send them my way!

Ok. On to things that are doing WAY better!

I have started regrowing some of my carrots and lettuce on the windowsill. The progress they’ve made so far is pretty awesome. Maybe I can get some bonus lettuce and carrots out of it!

Speaking of carrots, I have a few that are growing nice and strong in my cold frame.

I’ll keep them in there for a few more weeks to see how big they can get.

And my spinach overwintered in my other cold frame!

On my other kitchen windowsill I have orchids that are from October. I swear these have been blooming for months.

I also have an aloe plant that I bought in early December.

My AeroGarden is looking great. My dwarf tomatoes, lettuce and cilantro have sprouted.

I’ll have to take the little top off the cilantro very soon!

My basil, cilantro, strawberry mint, and some of my parsley have sprouted.

And a few of my hot peppers are peaking!

But, the most exciting thing going on around here…

MY CROCUSES ARE POPPING!!

The first sign of Spring is here!
