Very Good Gardening at Smallfields

Post 16: Seeds are popping

Hello again and happy Sunday.

I’d like to start out by freely admitting that I am terrible at coming up with titles for my blog posts. You have my permission to cringe or make a face at how corny they can be.

Now that that’s out of the way, I have many updates for today.

First, seed starting is off to a great start! (Pun intended)

Parsley and Impatiens
Many kinds of Basil
Various Hot Peppers
Sweet peppers slowly but surely coming

Today I started my tomatoes.

I hope I have some tomato sprouts to show you next weekend.

My AeroGarden transplants are a mixed bag of success. The cilantro, thyme, and parsley are looking great. In fact I feel like they are doing even better than when they were in the hydroponics environment.

My Thai Basil and regular Basil are bouncing back. They aren’t 100% yet but I think they will make it!

I think my suspicions of transplant shock have been confirmed.

The Dill didn’t make it. I’m not too sad about this because I was able to get an entire spice jar full of dried dill off this plant.

Because I don’t like to have empty spaces, I decided to try and grow some Calendula in this pot. It should be interesting to watch if it will germinate and grow in an indoor environment.

My orchids and aloe plants are doing well. The orchid is budding out again so I should expect to see new blooms within the next few weeks.

My aloe plant had a leaf (are they technically leaves?!) that died. I’m not concerned because I’ve seen a lot of new growth recently. It’s looking very strong.

Pay no attention to the extra things laying around the garden…

The AeroGarden looks amazing! I have my cilantro, one of the dwarf tomatoes, and my buttercrunch lettuce all popping up.

And lastly, we’ve had more crocuses all around the front and back yards. I couldn’t get a great picture of them but I was able to get the first daffodils on camera.

Did I mention that it was 75 degrees today on March 6th? I’m here for it.
