Very Good Gardening at Smallfields

Post 24: Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mom’s out there!

On this traditional spring planting day, our temps have been unseasonably cool.

This is making hardening off my seedlings a little difficult but I’ve been finding time as best I can.

Hardening off my seedlings in my garden

Since it was pretty rainy the last few days, I wasn’t able to take them completely outside, I opened our garage and they were able to get some wind and indirect sunlight.

My amazing hubby gave me a lemon tree for Mother’s Day. Lemon trees are not hardy in my zone so I will take this in when the temps drop in the fall.

But I couldn’t be more excited!

It already has a few lemons on it!

Our beloved 13 year old dog passed away last week. We’ve been having a tough time with it. We bought some Azaleas and placed them on the corner of our property where we buried him. I love the idea that I can go and visit something beautiful whenever I think of him.

Azaleas to remember Reagan

I planted a whole bunch of Asparagus for the first time!

I have to let them go this first year without harvesting and only harvest very little next year.

This is a long term investment that will give me tons of asparagus for years to come! I can’t wait!

My spinach is doing great! I tried a new variety and I’m in love. It’s actually a little shiny and absolutely delicious.

I was able to harvest some carrots, spinach, arugula, lettuce, and chives for my lunches. I love that it’s early May and this is the first of many harvests this season!

A few of other updates:

Tulips on the side of our house
Strawberries!!!!!
Roses are coming soon
Radishes
I’ve never grown potatoes that were so healthy
Peas
Broccoli. Maybe I’ll get a good-sized head?
Blueberry bushes look amazing
Beans are actually growing out of my AeroGarden!

While I wasn’t able to plant anything this weekend, I feel like my garden is still in full force and this is one happy gardener!
